Teaching Philosophy

I pledge the following to my students and to myself as I strive to educate effectively:

I will teach my students from a Christian perspective.
I will thoughtfully and adequately prepare for every class session.
I will think outside the box when I plan every lesson.
I will consider each student when I plan every lesson.
I will stay current in my subject matter.
I will learn from my failures in the classroom.
I will build on my successes in the classroom.
    I will respect each student.
I will pray for each student.
I will demand that my students respect each other.
I will encourage diverse viewpoints in my classroom.
I will praise and encourage students.
I will set high expectations for students.
I will challenge students to rise above the status quo.
I will provide quick and specific feedback to students’ work.
I will strive to test and grade fairly.
I will avail myself to students.
I will listen to and often learn from students.
    I will consider myself a life-long student.
I will recognize students have lives outside my classroom.
I will concern myself with each student’s general well-being.
I will inspire students to succeed in and out of my classroom.
I will instill in students an appreciation for learning – and living.
I will not overload students with facts.
I will not overload students with meaningless busy work.
I will transcend the textbook in my teaching.
I will value class discussion and limit one-sided lectures.
I will use examples, illustrations and anecdotes in my teaching.
I will communicate all expectations clearly and specifically.
I will earn my students’ trust.
